The Çaparun Club
We are a running club based in the Istanbul Faculty of Medicine and at the same time the only running club of the Istanbul University. Our mission is to motivate people to practice a healthy lifestyle in our spare time from the intensive educational program of our faculty. Our club activities are enjoyed by people from different occupations as well as by students from the Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Marmara University, Istanbul Technical University, Yıldız Technical University, Boğaziçi University, and Bezmialem Faculty of Medicine. We organize the Enka Interval with No Reason Co. every Wednesday, Çaparun every Friday, and Bebek Run with No Reason Co. every Sunday. Last year, we represented our university and had fun in various races in Istanbul and other cities. Our activity program this year similarly includes many races in Istanbul and other cities. We invite all our friends to join our team and share our passion.

The European Medical Students’ Association (EMSA)
The European Medical Students’ Association is a non-governmental organization with representatives from more than 110 medical faculties across 30 countries. Established in Brussels in 1990, the EMSA is recognized by the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Council, and the United Nations. The EMSA Istanbul (EMSA representatives in Çapa) is a club that has organized hundreds of activities in the last 10 years. The studies are generally carried out with the subbranches “Medical Education”, “Medical Ethics and Human Rights”, “Health Politics”, “ Public Health”, “Medical Science”, and “European Integration and Culture”. To give examples of our projects, we perform twinning projects (national–international student exchange programs lasting 1 to 2 weeks), organize small study groups on climate change and global warming, and conduct field studies for public information on special days such as HIV Awareness Day.
The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Advertising and Orientation Club
Our club was built for the announcement of news and success stories about our faculty’s students and members and has been actively using its Instagram account. We also take part in the update of the faculty website.
We organize supervised visits of students from different high schools to our campus, including our lecture halls and laboratories.
Our friends and lecturers volunteering to take part in the Advertising Team organize one-to-one meetings and campus tours with candidate students during the faculty advertising and enrollment period.
In addition, in order to raise awareness in the context of special days and weeks, graphic designs are produced and published on social media accounts and the screens used in lecture halls. Posters, brochures, and invitations are designed for activities, openings, and ceremonies within the faculty.
We also support faculty activities such as academic year opening programs, orientation days, the apron wearing ceremony, medical festivals, and the graduation ceremony.
The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Artificial Intelligence Club
Artificial intelligence (AI) that has gradually entered our lives with the digital transformation worldwide has provided many conveniences in various areas. It can play a key role in better medical diagnosis and treatment, accelerated drug development, individualized treatments, and the solution of public health problems that could not be effectively solved with traditional methods.
We also work for increased information and projects to improve AI awareness in the field of health-care. Accordingly, we aim to provide coding skills, multidisciplinary work experience, and literature awareness that our participants can use together with their medical education. After literature review we offer solutions for identified problems, in consultation with our professors or in line with our experiences. We discuss our proposals and projects with different people from different disciplines, and then participate in technology contests. Aware that a technology-driven future will be very different than today, we are not only preparing for that future, but also becoming a part of it with our projects.
We organize large-scale activities to which we invite our professors studying on the application of AI in health-care.
We regularly organize AI Research Society meetings in a multidisciplinary environment where we can discuss on studies that bring together health and AI.
Considering the lack of contents in Turkish, we have been publishing the “Kinezin Journal for Scientific News” to motivate future doctors and inform everyone willing to know about scientific studies and innovations in health-care and technology. In their articles our authors from different medical faculties across Türkiye discuss major recent developments and discoveries in health, computer science, and AI technology.
If you want to keep informed about the current use of AI in health and be a part of the multidisciplinary AI community, you can start using our mobile application, developed by our club.

The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Gastronomy Club
We are a group of people who like eating as well as cooking, and we reopened the gastronomy club, which had been inactive for a while, in the academic year of 2021–2022. Last year, we organized activities such as Korean and Mexican cuisine tastings, sushi tasting, and pizza and coffee workshops. We are looking forward to organizing many more activities with a larger team! If you would like to join us and receive our announcements, please follow us @itfgastronomi

The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Health and Innovation Club
Since our establishment our goal has been to keep abreast of pioneering developments in the field of health-care, participate in innovative activities, and create a science-oriented environment bringing together students and researchers of our faculty. We organize monthly seminars under the name “SAINO meetings” during the spring and fall semesters. Our meetings are moderated by our club advisor Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Karan, and include invited researchers, doctors, advisors affiliated with the Turkish Ministry of Health, expert engineers engaged in medical research and development, and managers of private hospitals.
Our club has been managed by a creative team who plan to transmit their culture to future generations with activities to last for decades. Within this context, the publication of the popular health journal Parakrin for “a menthol-like lift in science” was started by physiologist Dr. Mustafa Kahraman and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif Karan in the same year our club was formed. (All issues of the journal where you can read our news about recent scientific developments worldwide are available at https://drsaino.com/parakrin-dergisi/dergi). In our journal we also publish interviews that we make with distinguished professors from our faculty and provide information about our activities, mission, and studies.
Our club both reviews the current scientific literature and conducts its own scientific studies. Together with the Internal Medicine Geriatrics Division (IFM, Istanbul University), we have been conducting a study on patients on regular medication, with three members of our club management actively working in the project. In addition, we have completed studies on diabetic patients and travel health, of which we made oral presentations in an associated conference.
The various health, innovation, and culture events organized by our club so far include:
- Participation in Innovation Week
- Medicine Day celebration
- Participation in the Expomed Eurasia Medical Fair
- Visit to the Museum of the History of Science
- Acquaintance meeting
- Participation in TEKNOFEST
- Visit to the Çanakkale Martyrs’ Memorial
We believe that other medical students, too, can potentially be as successful as the Nobel laureate Turkish physician Aziz Sancar, once they begin the right investment in themselves. To do that altogether, we invite all students to our club and activities where they can meet expert academics and scientists.

The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Music Club
Established in 1984, the IFM Music Club is one of the oldest student clubs in our faculty. We organize various activities within social and cultural contexts in our spare time from the intensive educational program of our faculty. Members of our club perform both individually and together in our studio that has been available since its establishment in 1992. Our club activities and organizations are as follows:
The Voice Çapa is our traditional activity since 2013 where faculty students compete acquiring professional stage experience. The orchestra consists of faculty students and our professors serve as the competition juries.
Welcome to Çapa, launched in 2021, is an organization to welcome new students to our faculty and host famous people in a festival atmosphere.
Drock as one of our traditional activities offers music groups the chance of acquiring stage experience with professional equipment, at least once each academic year, with the first concert having been performed in 2005.
Acoustic concerts, first performed in 2009, are organized within the faculty campus, using the equipment of club members.
Instrument courses are given voluntarily by our club members to faculty students who wants to be able to play a musical instrument.
Our workshops and interviews are educational, informative and enjoyable activities to which we invite professional musicians.
We invite all students to our club to gather at the most popular activities of our faculty.
The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Omnia Club
Omnia is a Latin word meaning “everyone, everything”, and we take roles in “every” mission for our faculty in the fields of literature, philosophy, ethics, and psychology. We feel responsible and proud for being one of the few thinking clubs within the IFM.
We do book analyses, short-film discussions, museum tours, philosophy meetings, and theater days. We publish literary writings in our fanzine Sirayet for our school friends. Our activities are based on discussing chosen topics, producing ideas, and raising awareness together with all participants, having fun at the same time.

The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Photography Club
We describe ourselves as people passionate about taking photos and talking about photography. Each Monday at 4.30 p.m., we meet up in our room at the Kollar Corridor and discuss about photos we have taken or would like to take. We prepare presentations for ourselves and, occasionally, organize meetings with successful photographers. We also organize photography trips in the city every several weeks and outside the city once a year. We exhibit photos from these trips at midterm or in the main annual exhibition as part of school activities and spring festivals.
If you are willing to be a part of our community and talk about photography, we invite you to join us in our routine Monday meetings at the Kollar Corridor.

The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Social Responsibility Club
We are a team of young doctor candidates formed in 2011 with the aim of promoting a fraternal environment in our faculty, developing ourselves in all aspects socially and culturally, and addressing social needs sensitively and responsibly.
At the beginning of each year, we organize in our club an “Introduction Program” for new friends joining us and introduce ourselves and inform them about the functioning of our school.
Every year we invite a speaker from the Turkish Authors’ Association to listen to their inspiring ideas, organize kermises at our school to carry out a social relief project with the revenues, and come together to discuss a current medical issue with experts from the perspectives of medicine, fiqh, and ethics (the TGM program).
We come together with our friends and professors also at the evening meals during Ramadan in the students’ square.
We publish Kalem ve Onur, a journal of art, thought and literature, within the scope of our club twice a year.

The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Travel Club
Our mission is to travel, have fun and socialize together, making time for ourselves during the intensive educational program of our faculty. Accordingly we act together to find sponsorships, create plans, acquire skills, and organize trips and activities in Istanbul and other cities. Our activities last year included Welcome Party (Tabu Karaköy) and the Western Black Sea Trip. Our club is managed by Yağmur Demirtaş and Emre Murzoğlu.
.
The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine Yacht Club
We are setting sail toward new stories for sea and yacht lovers. As the IFM-student youth of a peninsular country, we aim to love and learn about the sea and sailing, and act together in a team spirit.
We invite you to our club to join our family and enjoy our adventures: meeting sails, Burgaz island trips, socialization activities, trainings, among many other things!
.
The Istanbul University Club of Young Doctors Worldwide
We carry out many social responsibility projects, focused primarily on children, and organize useful activities for the personal and professional improvement of students of our school. These activities include visiting village schools and building up libraries, providing education on hygiene and other topics in primary schools, providing health screening and public information in village and city centers, encouraging our friends to make blood and thrombocyte donation, and organizing workshops to listen to the experiences of our senior colleagues who volunteered to bring health services to different geographical areas as well as to improve our professional abilities. Our club has been operating for about ten years, with activities in three different faculties (medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy).
